I am a junior from Portland, Oregon who aspires to give voice to the voiceless. Frustrated by the dearth of impactful media platforms for teen journalists, I founded WANT, a news, sports and entertainment website that aggregates the best in youth journalism from school newspapers and teen bloggers worldwide. I aim to empower the innovative, entrepreneurial STEM spirit of middle school girls by launching a summer startup camp.
My HERlead Project: Portland Journalism Training Initiative
My project will address the issue of young girls’ voices being ignored and undervalued by providing journalism training that has been removed from high school curriculums.
