My name is Mahsheed and I am from Afghanistan. I enjoy discussions about global issues, reading and creative writing. I go to school in Maryland, where I am a member of Model United Nations, Student Ambassadors, International Club and a community service club. I play volleyball and basketball. Growing up in a country where women have been treated with violence for a very long time, I realized that talking alone does not help a society to grow equally — it is action that is important for a better and brighter future.

My HERlead Project: Afghan Youth Reading Association

The Afghan Youth Reading Association is a book club that will bring together high school students with the goal of increasing members’ tolerance and respect for religious, cultural and ethnic differences and raise awareness about social issues in Afghanistan.
