Mary Catherine

Mary Catherine is a sophomore at Prospect High School from Mount Prospect, Illinois, where she plays softball, basketball, and competes in Show Choir and Science Olympiad. She is extremely passionate about environmental issues, as she believes that our future depends on the decisions made now to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change on global health. Mary Catherine is in the process of starting a non-profit organization with girls from across the country to promote teenage community involvement and recently won first in the caregiving case study at the Harvard Global Health and Leadership Conference. She was the Illinois State Champion in the Ecology Science Olympiad event and will be completing an internship at the US Environmental Protection Agency this summer. In her free time, Mary Catherine enjoys running, singing, sleeping, and watching movies with her friends.


My HERlead Project aims to encourage my community to move away from toxic herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers placed on turf and commonly used grassy areas, which can lead to negative health effects in children and the ecosystem as a whole.
