I am a sophomore at Taylor Allderdice High School and I am from Pittsburgh, PA. I play field hockey and take as many history classes as possible. As the immigrant and refugee populations have skyrocketed in my community, I have noticed the continuous academic and social disparities between native born and immigrant students. I believe we can overcome cultural intolerance and discrimination through humanizing interactions, mutual learning and global friendships. I am the founder of the Global Minds Initiative, a student-led movement for after school programs that connects English as a Second Language and Native English Speaking students. Since 2016, the Global Minds Initiative has expanded into 13 schools, seven states and two countries, and has impacted over 500 students. I am passionate about education justice and the importance of cultural exchange.
