Mariah

I am a junior from Washington, D.C., but I was born on the island of Madagascar, a country that is strikingly beautiful but stricken with poverty. Since coming to the United States, I have come to appreciate all the amazing opportunities I have been given. Through my experiences living in these two different worlds, I realized that I have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to achieve a higher education and live a life where I will never go hungry, will always have a home and a sense of security. It is through my immigration experience that I discovered my passion for encouraging others to achieve their fullest potential; to discover their own raison d’être – their reason to be – where they understand the difference between truly living and merely existing.
