Laura

I am from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico but I am currently a freshman at Barnard College in New York City. For six years I have worked to create an awareness and prevention campaign against child abuse. I have also participated in various programs in the U.S. which have helped me define my goals of wanting to pursue a major in economics and human rights. I am a lifelong Girl Scout and was selected as a Girl Scout “Young Woman of Distinction” in 2014. This summer, I also worked with Puerto Rico’s House of Representatives and the Department of Education to further the campaign against child abuse.

My HERlead Project: PUERTO RICO MOVES FORWARD

My HERlead Project will address the lack of information available in Puerto Rico and abroad, during and after natural disasters such as Hurricane Maria. Puerto Rico Moves Forward will create a resource website, which will include an action kit explaining how other people can get involved and raise awareness about natural disasters and their impact on communities.
